The Westlake Choral Department includes four audition year-long choirs and one non-audition semester-based choir. There is a place for everyone to sing!
A CAPPELLA (11-12)
This ensemble strengthens students’ musical foundation through performing a variety of musical styles and genres, including movements of major choral works. Members participate in all scheduled choral concerts, and at region and state festival. These co-curricular activities occur outside of regular school hours. There are class fees and a uniform purchase requirement. Students in A Cappella are also eligible to participate in the Choral Department Spring Tour.
MADRIGALS (10-12)
Members of the Madrigal Choir must be enrolled in either Men’s, Women’s or A Cappella Choir in addition to Madrigals. This high-intensity ensemble is designed for students who are very interested in choral music and will enhance students’ knowledge of choral music and their rehearsal and performance etiquette. Members need to be willing to commit to a weekly sectional rehearsal, as well as all classes and performances. Students should strive to have a minimum of 90% attendance and at least a 2.5 quarterly grade point average.
Men's and Women's Choirs (10-12)
These choirs specialize in vocal technique and choral literature specific to the male and female voice. It is especially helpful for the sophomore singer as he/she continues vocal maturation and those students who may not have any prior singing/choral experience. Students will receive a foundation for correct vocal technique, basic music theory, and sight-singing. With these skills, students either learn or reinforce singing in 2-3 part harmony while creating good choral tone. Students also explore a variety of musical styles and genres, and learn how to work together as an ensemble. Members participate in all scheduled choral concerts, and at region festival. These co-curricular activities occur outside of regular school hours. There are class fees and a uniform purchase requirement.
General Choir is a semester-based non-audition choir. It is designed for students who are looking to explore singing in an ensemble for a fine-arts credit. There is a class fee.
